I could use a bit of understanding on this topic, 'cos if im calculating correctly, ill need 48 Datacenter 2-core pacs, but im unsure about the quantity of Standard 2-pack licences, and if we should go for it or the Datacenter. DC is what you want if you will have so many VMs that the price will be higher if you use Standard. I forget the exact number, but somewhere around 12 - 15 VMs is the break point - after that DC is cheaper.
You mentioned more than 15 VMs, so you want DC. You need 3 DC licenses one per server then as many add on core packs per server as required to reach your physical count.
Sorry for being dumb in this matter, but i didnt understand the last part If i calculated right, on 32 cores per server total of 96 i need 48 2-pack Datacenter licences You need to license each one on its own so it's best to do the math per machine. If one drops out or something, the others need proper licensing. That's why I worded it the way I did. Licenses get assigned to the physical box and each box needs to be properly licensed.
I run about VMs on a 3 node Hyper-V cluster that has 24 cores per host Do you have the ability to limit the hosts that your VMs can run on to two? If you are running standard type workloads, you should be able to run all of the VMs on a single host with production performance I'll keep things simple I taking that you already done your research why you need 2x 16 cores per host One stupid question before we go further This would all be Windows Server VMs, or anything else?
